YORKTON FILM FESTIVAL

I was in Yorkton recently to take in a bit of the festival. I met some friends and checked out the new Panasonic twin lens 3D camera. 3D still seems like a novelty to me and is a few years away from practicality on the low budget scale of filmmaking. Plus i don't really know how many stories (whether doc or fiction) really warrant the 3D experience.

The main reason i was in Yorkton was to guide a group of high school students in making a video (shot and edited) in about 5 hours. It was a great experience that was facilitated by Tony Hrynchuk of Fahrenheit Films. The students had the task of shooting their interpretation of a scene from Alexander Payne's Election. They did a really good job and if i get a copy of it i'll throw it up here.

I will be at Hot Docs this year to soak in the festivities and see some great (hopefully) documentary films and to hang out with some friends.

GHOSTS AND GRAVEL ROADS - Director: Mike Rollo - Cinematographer: Terryll Loffler

The TIFF Group released their list for Canada's top ten feature and short films, and out of nowhere 'Ghost and Gravel Roads was chosen as one of the ten in the short film category. Wow.

Public screenings of all the films with Q&As and introductions by filmmakers on the list will be held from Jan. 30 to Feb. 7 at Toronto's Cinematheque Ontario.

GHOSTS AND GRAVEL ROADS - S16mm > HD

A film i was the cinematographer on, GHOSTS and GRAVEL ROADS by filmmaker Mike Rollo was awarded Best Cinematography at the Delta International Film and Video Festival. Nice to get some recognition.
